Job Search: Where Should I Look?

by Linda L. Hardenstein

If you’re a job seeker you may know what you want to do but do you know if there are jobs available in that field? For example, attorneys, Safety-Net-webIT professionals and marketing managers can work in all kinds of industries.  This Huffington Post article shows you the fields that are hiring and where the jobs are.

Before you leap into a new field, you need to know if it’s the right fit for you.  To find out, ask yourself these questions —

Am I suited for this environment? Each field has its own unique culture.  If your temperament or how you operate is out of sync with the culture at your workplace you may not be happy.  For example, if you’re a planner and someone who likes to think things through you may struggle in a high tech environment that uses an agility management style, where it’s all about reacting and responding quickly.

Do you have what it takes to make the successful leap from one field to the other? A successful job search strategy shows you how to build a bridge from where you are to where you want to be and how to convey that to the hiring manager.  You have to show how your background and experience relate to the position, how you fit, and the value you bring even though you have no experience in the new field.

To discover which jobs and environments are the best fit for you, or to figure out how to make a successful leap from one field to another it takes some discovery and a strategy for success.  Contact me  to develop your strategy to land the job that’s right for you.
