Your Success: The First Step to Getting There

Success. What does it mean to you? No matter how you define it, it begins with a vision.

Being clear on what you want isn’t always easy. You may be going through a high level of change and not know what you want. Fear of failure can stop you because you’re afraid you won’t get what you want anyway, so why spend time thinking about it. Then there is fear of success — being afraid you’ll get what you want and will have to step up to a bigger or different game.

If you really want to take control of your destiny, getting clear on what you want is the first step in achieving your success. To create your vision:

  • Stephen Covey in The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People says “begin with the end in mind.” Take a few minutes in a quiet space to imagine your future and write it down. Picture it — it’s 2015.  You’re successful — what are you doing?
  • Write a sentence beginning with “I wish” and jot down the thoughts that come into your mind. Then pick one “wish” and imagine it becoming a reality.
  • Work with a coach or mentor to lead you through a process to help you uncover what you want.  I created Success Maps™  to help business owners and executives envision their future and take control of their destiny with a step-by-step process for achieving their goals.

There’s a saying “if you aim at nothing you’ll get it.” The funny thing is once you envision your future with your whole being, get aligned and take action, the universe usually lines up to support you in making it happen.
